Sensing cable or spot probe, how to divide a room into zones, and how to route leak and cable-break alarms to staff, BMS and SCADA.
Publisert
Water in a server room or technical room usually comes from the cooling system: chilled-water pipes, room and in-row cooling units, condensate drains and humidifiers, or pipes passing through from the floor above. Leak detection in server rooms is about finding that water before it reaches power distribution and equipment, and telling the right person quickly. This article compares sensing cable and spot probes, explains how to divide a room into zones, covers alarm handling and integration, and describes what the ICP DAS liquid leakage detection products do according to their data sheets.
| Sensing cable | Leakage probe | |
|---|---|---|
| ICP DAS part | CA-LLD-DC100X and CA-LLD-DC100 series | CA-LLD-DP100 |
| Detects | Liquid anywhere along the cable | Liquid touching both probe contacts at the same time |
| Suited to | Open areas and larger surfaces where the path of a leak is not known; can be fixed to supply and return lines | Drains, water tanks, containers and other restricted spots, or a specific water level |
| Where the leak is | Somewhere in the zone; the module reports per channel, and the DC100 is listed as "without position" | At the probe |
The sense cable is 6 mm thick, with a fluoropolymer carrier and two 30 AWG sensing wires in a conductive fluoropolymer jacket, rated for 70 °C continuous operation. Two cable types exist:
The CA-LLD-EC-L030 leader cable (3 m) connects the sense cable to the module and can be extended with shielded twisted pair, AWG 18 to 14. Leader cable and sense cables together can be up to 500 m. Hold-down clips (ASO-0051 for 180° and ASO-0052 for 90°, 50 per pack) fix the cable to the floor.
Because the module reports that a channel is wet, not where along the cable, the zone layout decides how fast someone finds the water. Practical rules:
| Zone | Area | Sensor |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cooling unit A, loop around the base | DC100X cable with terminal resistor |
| 2 | Cooling unit B, loop around the base | DC100X cable with terminal resistor |
| 3 | Chilled-water supply and return under the raised floor | DC100X cable fixed along the pipes |
| 4 | Condensate pump sump | CA-LLD-DP100 probe |
All four zones connect to one iSN-104-E, which has a separate alarm LED for each channel and reports to the building system over Ethernet. A neighbouring UPS room with a single water pipe gets an iSN-101 whose relay triggers a local siren.
| iSN-101 | iSN-104 | iSN-104-E | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Channels | 1 | 4 | 4 |
| Communication | RS-485, Modbus RTU or DCON | RS-485, Modbus RTU or DCON | Ethernet, Modbus TCP/UDP and MQTT |
| Local alarm | Buzzer with mute button, relay output | Buzzer with mute switch | Buzzer with mute button |
| Power | 10 to 30 VDC | 10 to 30 VDC | PoE and 10 to 48 VDC, redundant |
| Mounting | Wall | DIN rail | DIN rail |
All three alarm on both liquid leaks and cable breaks, accept a probe or a sense cable, and have a sensitivity range of 26 to 580 kΩ set by rotary switch. The iSN-101 relay is a Form A contact rated 2 A at 30 VDC. The iSN-104-E adds access control by ID, password and IP filter. The specified liquid type is water (2 µS/cm), so check other fluids, such as glycol mixtures, with us before relying on them.
Treat a cable break as a fault with its own message, because the zone is unprotected until it is repaired, and check in the register map how the module reports each condition. Test every zone with water at commissioning and at regular intervals, and dry the cable afterwards.
Send us a sketch of the room with its water sources, and our technical sales team will propose a zone layout and the matching modules and cables.
The ACS-10V-MF CR is an RFID proximity card reader for access control, combining door access, voice guidance and elevator floor control in one unit. It reads Mifare Classic, Ultralight and DESFire cards and can store up to 8192 cards, making it suited to community door access and elevator control. The reader includes electric door lock control and door position detection, plus an anti-sabotage micro switch. It keeps access records and provides a built-in RTC and WDT. Elevator floor control supports up to 16 floors.Connectivity covers a 10/100Base-T(X) Ethernet port, an RS-485 port and CAN (ISO-11898-2). Four digital inputs and two Form C relay outputs support door and system integration. The unit is wall mounted and rated for -20 ~ +60 °C operation.ApplicationsCommunity door access controlElevator access and floor controlAccess control systems requiring door position monitoring
The ACS-10V-MF-TC is an RFID proximity card reader for access control systems. It reads ISO 14443 A cards, including Mifare Classic, Ultralight and DESFire, and combines door access control, voice guidance and elevator floor control in one unit. This -TC ordering code is the Chinese voice version of the reader. The built-in voice message function gives users audible feedback at the door. The unit has an Ethernet port, an RS-485 port and a CAN bus interface, so it can be integrated into different access control architectures.Door security is handled by an electric door lock output, door position detection and an anti-sabotage micro switch. Access records are kept on the device, and it can store up to 8192 cards. It is suited to community door access and elevator control installations.ApplicationsCommunity door access controlElevator floor controlAccess control systems
The ACS-10VP-MF is a wall-mounted RFID proximity card reader for access control. It reads Mifare Classic, Ultralight and DESFire cards and combines door access, voice guidance and elevator floor control in one unit. This ordering code is the English voice version. Its Ethernet port supports Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af, Class 1), so the reader can be powered from the same cable as its network connection. An RS-485 port is also provided for serial communication. Two digital inputs and two Form C relay outputs allow the reader to handle door lock control and door position detection, and a micro switch provides anti-sabotage detection.Stores up to 8192 cards and provides access records.Supports elevator floor control for up to 32 floors.Built-in RTC and WDT for timekeeping and watchdog protection.ApplicationsCommunity door accessElevator controlAccess control systems
The ACS-11-MF is a proximity card reader with a built-in keypad, designed for access control installations where credentials are presented by card, by code or by both. It reads ISO 14443 A cards including Mifare Classic, Ultralight and DESFire, and gives spoken feedback through its built-in voice message function.Beyond credential reading, the unit controls an electric door lock, monitors door position and supports elevator floor control of up to 32 floors. It stores up to 8192 cards and keeps access records. An anti-sabotage micro switch and a choice of Ethernet, RS-485 or CAN communication suit it to engineers building networked access control systems. The reader is wall mounted and rated for an operating temperature of -20 ~ +60 °C. Its 2.0 W consumption and reverse polarity protection simplify integration into existing low-voltage access control wiring.ApplicationsCommunity door accessElevator floor controlAccess control systems
