The VXC-142iAU CR adds two RS-422/RS-485 serial ports to a PC through a universal PCI slot. Each port can be set to RS-485 for half-duplex or RS-422 for full-duplex operation, with speeds up to 115200 bps.
The i version isolates the data lines with on-board photocouplers, keeping the serial channels electrically separated from the host. This helps reduce ground loops and common-mode voltage problems, and the 2500 VDC isolation and ±4 kV ESD protection add robustness where electrical noise and voltage spikes are a concern.
COM port numbers can be fixed with an 8-bit DIP switch or left to the driver, which assigns an available number automatically. Under Windows the driver provides up to 128 KB of software buffer per port, backed by a 128-byte hardware FIFO, which suits large file transfers.
