The VEX-114/D2 CR is a short PCI Express x1 card that adds four RS-232 serial ports to a host PC. Each port has a 128-byte hardware FIFO and supports full-duplex communication at up to 115200 bps, making it suitable for connecting several serial devices to one computer.
A built-in COM-Selector uses an 8-bit DIP switch so the COM port number can be set manually, or the driver can assign an available number automatically. Under Windows the driver provides a software buffer of up to 128 KB per COM port, which helps with large file transfers.
The card is designed for intelligent devices such as bar code readers, serial printers, intelligent sensors and instrumentation equipment. The ordering information for this code lists a CA-9-3715D cable as the included accessory. Electrical isolation and ESD protection are features of the i versions of the VEX card, which are listed separately.
