VEX-112i CR is a PCI Express x1 serial communication card that adds two RS-232 ports to a host PC. Each port has a 128-byte hardware FIFO and supports full-duplex communication at up to 115200 bps, which suits engineers connecting bar code readers, serial printers, intelligent sensors and instrumentation to a Windows system.
Port addressing is flexible. A DIP switch lets you assign a specific COM port number manually, or the driver can select a free number automatically. Under Windows the driver provides up to 128 KB of software buffer per COM port, which helps with large file transfers.
The i version isolates the data lines of each serial port with photocouplers rated at 2500 VDC, reducing ground loops and common mode voltage problems. On-board ESD protection rated at ±4 kV diverts damaging static discharge away from sensitive circuitry. The short card design fits compact PCI Express slots.
