The PDS-742 is a programmable device server that brings serial equipment onto an Ethernet network. It provides three RS-232 ports and one RS-485 port, so existing serial instruments, controllers and field devices can be integrated without replacing them. The VxComm driver and utility can map the device's serial ports to virtual COM ports on a Windows PC, allowing standard COM-based software to communicate with them over the network.
Beyond simple serial-to-Ethernet bridging, the unit runs the built-in MiniOS7 from ICP DAS and can be programmed for custom Ethernet applications. It also operates as a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway, supporting SCADA and HMI systems that communicate over Modbus TCP. A watchdog timer and +/-4 kV ESD protection on the serial ports help it cope with demanding industrial environments.
The PDS-742 ordering code includes the CA-0910 cable. It has a plastic casing, a removable terminal block for wiring, and can be mounted on a DIN rail or on a wall. It is rated for an operating temperature of -25 ~ +75 °C and is supplied from a +10 ~ 30 VDC terminal block supply.
