The I-7530A-MR-G is a Modbus RTU to CAN converter for control systems that have a serial Modbus RTU master but no CAN interface. It bridges the two networks so that standard Modbus function codes can access CAN devices, which is useful when sensors or actuators are only available with CAN connectivity.
In Modbus Slave mode, the converter answers function codes 0x03, 0x04, 0x06 and 0x10 to read or write CAN messages. Its firmware also reserves dedicated memory for up to 100 kinds of urgent CAN messages that must be handled immediately, alongside the normal receive buffer. Modbus Master mode, which lets the converter poll several Modbus RTU slaves and relay data to CAN devices, requires firmware v1.11 or later.
Besides Modbus, the unit can convert CAN messages to and from ASCII command strings, or work in pair-connection mode to pass data transparently between two RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 devices over CAN bus. The serial ports cannot be used at the same time. A utility tool is provided for configuration and CAN communication testing, and firmware can be updated via RS-232.
